Tillandsia brachycaulos

Tillandsia brachycaulos looks just like the top of a pineapple! Native to the cloud forests of Mexico, Venezuela and Panama this thick  wide-leaved air plant can be found growing in trees and on rocky slopes and cliffs. In habitat, specimens of up to 10+ inches in diameter have been documented.  The lusciously green foliage takes on a strikingly pink appearance when T. brachycaulos begins to blush and from the center of this pink rosette arises vibrantly violet flowers.

T. brachycaulos can handle quite a bit of sun so it is recommended they receive bright slightly indirect light. The more light these plants receive the more red they will turn. This species of Tillandsia likes to take baths. We recommend that this species be watered weekly by soaking it in bowl of purified water for about 15 minutes. After the bath, place upside down on a paper towel to dry before placing back on display. A light misting 1-3 times a week helps this plant go longer between relaxing baths.

Fertilizing is not necessary; however, it encourages faster growth, off-setting, blushing, and blooming! To fertilize, we recommend misting your specimen with a foliar fertilizer such as our Foliar Feed at least once a month.

Your specimen will be about 1 inches in diameter.
