Tillandsia ehlersiana

Tillandsia ehlersiana this one is a gem! T. ehlersiana is rarely offered for sale and is a must have for collectors! Some say that fully mature specimens are easily mistakable for  T. caput-medusae. This Mexican native develops a bulbous base with time and has triangular gutter-shaped leaf blades that are similar in appearance to that of T. caput-medusae so I guess that is understandable. However, this species tends to grow among rocks rather than high up in the trees.

T. ehlersiana actually enjoys full sun, however, that is sometime difficult to provide. Luckily, these plants also do well with bright indirect light. This species of Tillandsia has an abundance of trichomes which makes it extremely effective at absorbing moisture from the environment. This plant is also prone to rot as the tightly packed leaves that form the bulbous base can trap water. It is recommended that submerging this plant be avoided and that watering is done through misting about 3 times a week or more often if the air in your home is very dry.

Fertilizing is not necessary; however, it encourages faster growth, off-setting, blushing, and blooming! To fertilize, we recommend misting your specimen with a foliar fertilizer such as our Foliar Feed at least once a month.

Your small specimen will be about 3-to-4 inches in length.

Your mini specimen will be about 1 inch in length.
