Tillandsia Ionantha is one of the few Tillandsia with a common name — the sky plant! T. Ionantha is native to Southern Mexico and Central America, however, it can be found growing in some areas within the Southern United States. In habit they most often can be found clinging in clumps of 3 to 5 plants on trees and rock faces but they also have a tendency to grow on telephone lines! T. Ionantha readily produces pups and blooms relatively quickly. Juvenile plants are green with a silver hue and when they reach maturity they begin to “blush,” turning shades of red before producing up to 3 violet flowers.

As with most Tillandsia, T. Ionantha enjoys bright indirect light. This species of Tillandsia does not like to be submerged in water as it is prone to rot. We recommend that this species be water with heavy mistings with purified water 2-3 times per week or more often if the air in your home is very dry.

Fertilizing is not necessary; however, it encourages faster growth, off-setting, blushing, and blooming! To fertilize, we recommend misting your specimen with a foliar fertilizer such as our Foliar Feed at least once a month.

These specimens are the staple cultivar Tillandsia Ionantha Guatemala

Your specimen will be 2-to-3inches in height.

Love it!!!

It’s so cute! I was a little nervous about getting a plant shipped to me, but the packaging was excellent.
