Tillandsia ionantha 'Mexico' Clump

Tillandsia Ionantha ‘Mexico’ is a variety of sky plant that exhibits deep shades of red. T. Ionantha ‘Mexico’ is native to Southern Mexico. In habit they most often can be found clinging in clumps on trees and rock faces but they also have a tendency to grow on telephone lines! T. Ionantha readily produces pups and blooms relatively quickly. When these plants reach maturity they begin to “blush,” turning deeper shades of red and produce violet flowers.

As with most Tillandsia, T. Ionantha ‘Mexico’ enjoys bright indirect light. This species of Tillandsia does not like to be submerged in water as it is prone to rot. We recommend that this species be watered with heavy mistings with purified water 2-3 times per week or more often if the air in your home is very dry.

Fertilizing is not necessary; however, it encourages faster growth, off-setting, blushing, and blooming! To fertilize, we recommend misting your specimen with a foliar fertilizer such as our Foliar Feed at least once a month.

Your specimen will have 4-5 plants that are up to 1 inch in height.
