It is said to be one of the most powerfully cleansing herbs. Indigenous cultures are said to have used decocted incense-cedar leaves to treat stomach aches, congestion, and the common cold.

Apart from incense-cedar's use in smoking cleansing and medicine, it is an important commercial softwood species. Products produced from incense-cedar include lumber, fence posts, railroad ties, venetian blinds, chests, shingles, and pencils!
