Tillandsia harisii

Tillandsia harrisii is a great beginner’s variety. This soft velvety leaved Tillandsia is native to the temperate forests and mountains of Guatemala. In habitat this species can grow to about 8 inches in length before blooming. The bloom to T. harrisii is a crimsion red inflorescence with dark violet flowers.

As with most Tillandsia, T. harrisii enjoys bright indirect light. This species is extremely effective at collecting water because it has an abundance of specialized microscopic cups called trichomes that are used to collect moisture. Since this species is so effective at collecting moisture they can survive moderate humidity levels with weekly dunks in purified water, however, they do like to be misted a few times a week.

Fertilizing is not necessary; however, it encourages faster growth, off-setting, blushing, and blooming! To fertilize, we recommend misting your specimen with a foliar fertilizer such as our Foliar Feed at least once a month.

Your specimen will be 4-to-5 inches in height.
