Tillandsia punctulata

Tillandsia punctulata can be grown as an air plant, or in a pot! Yup you read that right, there are a few air plants that have the ability to grow in soil. Some depend on the soil roots for moisture but mostly it’s just that the roots are anchoring them in place and they still do water and nutrient absorption through their leaves. This indemnity crisis stricken plant is native to Southern Mexico and Central America where it can be found in dense forests growing in clumps either on the ground or in low laying branches. It has lovely deep green, lush leaves that are dark towards the base, the flower spike is large, bright orange, and decorated with purple and white flowers.

T. punctulata is one of the Tillandsia species that does well in lower light conditions, however, they thrive best in bright indirect light. This plant is prone to rot if you decide to plant in soil so exercise caution. I prefer to mount this species onto a piece of grape vine or cholla wood! A quick dunk or a through misting about 3 times a week or more often if the air in your home is very dry is sufficient for these plants to thrive.

Your specimen will be 6+ inches in height.
